The SURE-BEND hydraulically operated folding weir system is designed to maintain maximum water levels upstream of the weir, allowing full utilization of all available upstream storage volume without affecting overflow weir capacity in combined sewer overflow (CSO) applications. The SURE-BEND's unique and extensively tested design works by only allowing any excess water in the system to reach the receiving watercourse, but only after the design upstream water level has been reached. This increases reservoir and sewer storage volume and reduces the frequency and volume of overflows, leading to less water pollution. This enables the SURE-BEND to overcome the disadvantages inherent in fixed weirs. The SURE-BEND protects against backflow as it is normally in the closed position.
The SURE-BEND allows installation in new overflow structures or can be installed directly on existing fixed weirs. The following components are required and included in the SURE-BEND hydraulically operated bend weir system: bend weir flap, plain bearings, supports, guide walls, anchoring system, hydraulic cylinder, hydraulic power unit, control panel. Ultrasonic water level sensor and inclinometer.

The SURE-BEND hydraulically operated bending weir system may vary from the GSB-30 to the GSB-100. The GSB-30 is designed to hold 12 inches (30 cm) of water above the weir crest, and the GSB-100 holds 40 inches (100 cm) of water above the weir crest. Selection of the SURE-BEND model is based entirely on the height of water storage required. Units are modular in design, with a single unit measuring up to 20 feet (6 m) in length. The hydraulic capacity of the SURE-BEND is at least equal to that of a standard weir.
The hydraulically operated SURE-BEND weir is installed on the downstream side and directly along the entire length of the weir opening. The SURE-BEND adapts to the overflow by pivoting at the bottom and opening at the top.
The SURE-BEND is equipped with one or more hydraulic control cylinders. These hydraulic cylinders act against the spillway flap to adjust the upstream water level to the desired height under all flow conditions. In the event of a power outage, the SURE-BEND hydraulic control spillway is designed to remain fully open and function as an emergency overflow. Upstream and downstream water levels are continuously monitored.
