The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator maintains a constant discharge at a set value independent of the upstream water level. The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator opening is adjusted based on the upstream water level to yield a constant discharge. The most important functional elements are the counterweighted pivoted radial gate, the radial gate operator, the upstream water level measuring device, the solar power pack and the control panel. During low flow periods, the pivoted radial gate remains in the fully open position.
The upstream water level is monitored using an ultra-sonic water level measuring device. This allows the counterweighted pivoted radial gate’s position to be adjusted according to the set discharge value and the flow relationship in the control panel.
The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator has an automatic self-flushing effect to prevent blockage. During operation, the ACU-SOL is timed at specific intervals to open fully to allow any blockage to pass through the regulator unhindered. This flushes the blockage out under the pressure of the upstream water level after which the regulating process resumes.
Each ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator is calibrated on a fully functional, full scale test stand. Each ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator is shipped to site pre-set to the desired design flow. In addition, the control panel allows for future in-situ flow adjustments (should it be required). The regulator can then be installed and put into operation without requiring time consuming and cost intensive in-situ flow calibration or measurement.
The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator must be equipped with a servo-control unit to modify the design flow from fully open to closed. The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator can be equipped with an inductive flow meter which is used to monitor flow through the unit during dry weather flow periods. The ACU-SOL Solar Powered Regulator can be controlled using the local control panel or remotely from a central control location.
